USB 3.0 Controller and Card Reader aren't working

Postby mfractal on Fri Nov 25, 2011 9:44 am

Hi all, newbie here with some questions.
I've installed the latest LMDE release on my Alienware M18x and noticed some issues.

Firstly - the USB 3.0. The m18x has two USB controllers, one is USB 2.0 the other is USB 3.0.
The 2.0 controller works just fine out of the box while the 3.0 controller does not work - nothing happens with i stick a USB drive in.

Here's what i see :

Code: Select all
lspci -k
...
00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 05)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 05)
22:00.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Dell Device 048f
...

So the problematic one is of course the 22:00.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04)

Any idea how to diagnose/fix the problem ?
(I found this post saying i need to build the kernel (!) http://okomestudio.net/biboroku/?p=1360 but i don't really want to go there)

Second issue is with the card reader which is being shown as follows :

Code: Select all
lspci -k
...
14:00.0 Unassigned Class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 5209 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Dell Device 048f
14:00.1 SD Host controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 5209 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Dell Device 048f
kernel driver in use: sdhci-pci
...

Whenever i insert a SD card absolutely nothing happens.

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
