HP LaserJet 1020 not working

Hello!
I moved recently to LMDE, after series of old Ubuntus, then long love with Debian, short with Fedora. LMDE seems very nice and polished Debian based distribution. However, one problem remained open and that is printer:
I use HP LaserJet 1020. All attempts to follow some posts resulted in failure (for example: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=48560&. It seems to me that there are serious dependency issues, of cups, foomatic, hplip, foo2zjs and other stuffs for printing.
Has anyone resolved this? Any help or tip?

All the best,
PM

What is your sources.list? If it's pointing to latest testing, try it with pure testing sources and update the packages you
mentioned as culprits. Or you can try it with adding unstable sources to your sources.list. Some weeks ago a lot of printer
drivers came in. Maybe the right one for you is among them.

This is my source.list:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free

#### R-CRAN
## KEY: gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-key 381BA480
## gpg -a --export 381BA480 > jranke_cran.asc
## apt-key add jranke_cran.asc
deb http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian squeeze-cran/
deb-src http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian squeeze-cran/
A wonder if I may add some Debian repositories, that I used before?

Many thanks!

Yes you can :) as a long time debian user you know what to do?

You can read about the sources.list here - http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=79533 -

If you want to run mint latest repos mainly, your sources.list should be this:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
You didn't change the last two lines after installation. That can cause problems with updates or the installation of new packages.

I certainly hope I know!

Anyhow, thank you so very much! In conclusion: do I really need Debian repositories at all?!

All the best and Happy and Minty New Year,
Petar

Normally not. But the mint latest repos are frozen since weeks and if you need newer packages like possibly for cups etc. now,
it's good to know how to work with debian testing or unstable repos.

I too am facing the same problem. Earlier was using foo2zjs from http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/. Since 3 weeks I lost the ability to print.

Tried hplip 3.11.12 in vain. The printer is setup, but nothing gets printed :-(

On a whim installed Mint 12 and straight off the live cd, the printer worked. hplip version on that was 3.11.7. Am going to try that version and see what happens tomorrow.

Regards.
