Laptop webcam and microphone

Postby khaos on Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:55 am

Hi guys. I have LMDE 64bit (updated && pack #3) @ Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31Z. The only h/w issue is the built-in webcamera and microphone. During the boot there is auvcvideo fail I don't know if its from that.

My webcamera is shown in lsusb: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ca:183b Ricoh Co., Ltd Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC8 [R5U870]
My mic is not working and I don't know how to fix it :P

Any help is appreciated!

Update: I saw in a solution in the forum that I have followed:
$ sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev libusb-dev build-essential gcc automake mercurial
$ hg clone http://bitbucket.org/ahixon/r5u87x/
$ cd r5u87x
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo r5u87x-loader --reload

Now the cheese trying to load the picture with no luck. But the yellow light in the webcam lights :P Is this a good sign?

I have the same problem as well. I am running a gateway NV55S03u with LMDE. 3.1m HD cam, internal mic. no cam or sound, and cheese will not work at all.

Thanks :shock:

i have the same problem with a vgn-fz21e / same webcam / LMDE - latest updates.

also v4l2ucp returns "Unable to open file /dev/video0. No such file or directory"
and same output at guvcview

There is a problem also with the mic. It wasn't working with pulseaudio and i replaced it with alsa, but the problem still exists.

any help either for webcam or mic would be great.

This maybe a fix for camera in cheese as I had to use it. Go to groups and users and add yourself to the video group.
