Only 1 cpu core detected i7-2720QM LMDE 64 [Solved]

Post by vetus »

Please can anyone assist me I have Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 bit Katya installed on a Dell XPS 17 L702X and the OS seems to only detect 1 of the 8 cpu cores of my i7-2720QM.
Ive searched google and both the debian and mint forums and can't find much help with the issue.

I have ubuntu, backtrack, and arch installed on separate partitions and they all report 8 cpu cores correctly.
If there is any other information required please ask, if anyone knows of an answer please post a link.

This post got me pointed in the right direction.
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=65798

My problem was caused by having the nolapic in my GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
Removed it updated-grub and all 8 cores are back.
