ATI Radeon, Open Source driver (Gallium) issues.

Postby zer0ed on Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:29 pm

The radeon open drivers don't seem to be working correctly on my system. I can't even run glxgears!

I'm trying to get compiz working in LMDE with the ATI open source drivers (not the binary catalyst/fglrx drivers).
I know it's possible to run compiz with the open drivers as I have done so in the past with other distros; Mint 10 (ubuntu based), Ubuntu, and Arch.

When I try to start compiz with "compiz --replace" I have various screen artifacting and the screen becomes useless.
So I figure I'll try something simple to see if I can render 3D graphics.. I fire up glxgears and the same thing happens, artifacting and the screen pretty much locks up.

Below is my card and some of the output from various graphics commands...
My card: ATI Radeon HD 3850 (AGP based)

Code: Select all
$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV670

$ lspci -v | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV670PRO [Radeon HD 3850] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

$ sudo lshw -c display | grep driver
configuration: driver=radeon latency=32 mingnt=8

Any help is much appreciated!
