lxde getting touchpad to scrolling AND tapping Acer One

I've installled lxde desktop environment and am trying to get BOTH scrolling and tapping working on the touchpad for an Acer Aspire One.

I've read a number of posts and using gpointing-device-settings I can get scrolling to work but not tapping.

Using an alternative approach with inputting 'sudo modprobe -r psmouse' followed by 'sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps' I can get tapping to work but scrolling stops working.

How can I get both tapping AND scrolling to work on my touchpad when using LMDE with and LXDE desktop WITHOUT breaking touchpad functionality when using the gnome desktop?
