Can't see networked multi-printer for scanning.

I recently installed an HP Laserjet 100 colour MFP M175a. I want to connect this to my dd-wrt router for network use. After manually updating hplip I successfully installed the drivers (via LMDE'S system-config-printer) and can now see and print to it. The problem is I can't scan from it. It isn't visible to either sane or xsane . The HP Device Manager also fails to see the device, even after it is installed as system wide default printer by system-config-printer. Any ideas anyone?
