nvidia-xconfig gives black screen at restart

I've spent all afternoon trying to get nvidia drivers to work, and I'm just about at the end of my rope. I'm a newb, so any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

I have a Samsung laptop with a GeForce GT 520MX video card. I've tried using a few different tutorials to install drivers, but whenever I run nvidia-xconfig I get a black screen with a cursor at restart. Each time, I go into terminal and delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart and end up back where I started. Please help.

Thanks for the links! Unfortunately, none of the solutions suggested there worked but I was able to fix my problems by installing LM11 instead.

Each time, I go into terminal

The contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old could give some clues.

Does your laptop have hybrid graphics?

Please run this command in terminal and post the output:

If it shows both Intel and nvidia graphics please install Bumblebee, or disable Intel graphics in the BIOS (if possible).
