Wifi Icon Disappeared (and no idea how to connect)

Post by ShakeyJake »

Hello folks,

I've been running lmde on this laptop for a few weeks now. I had wifi running just fine as standard from installation, but a few days ago I turned it on and wifi was gone. The icon is missing from the notification area, and I have no idea how to connect without it! I have tried 'network' under 'administration' but that just says 'roaming mode enabled' and I cant figure out to scan for an SSID, it just seems to want me to type it in. FWIW I have not installed or changed or updated anything between wifi working and not working. Output of mintwifi to follow.

Can anyone help please? I've been tethering my phone, but it's far from ideal.

Thanks,
Jack

Does the icon re-appear when you run:
nm-applet

from a terminal?

Hey, thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, that was the first thing I tried, and I found a similar output error to several other people on the internet.

My apologies, I typed this help thread last night in a hurry and I forgot to put in that I already tried a few fixes. The other thing that I have tried is changing some 'deny' to allow' in networkmanager.conf and I have tried another wifi driver from preferences>device driver management.

Launch nm-applet again and post the output of:

Code: Select all

Looks familiar.
What GTK+ theme do you use?

Sorry for the delay, away with work again!

Do you mean the 'appearance' theme? Just the standard mint one, with a comix cursor.

let's try with change the gtk theme to adwaita :3

Hello,

I have done that, in fact I've tried every theme that's there. Just to be safe I changed to adwaita and then rebooted but no joy. :-(

Seeing as the laptop is brand new do you think a reinstall would solve the problem? I'm not adverse to doing it but there's no point if it'll probably justt do the same thing again.
