No you should need to remove your other kernels.
So the card it working now but just not connecting to the network?
Try right click on your panel icon then network connections and the wireless tab. , then add.
Do you know the SSID and security key to the network you are trying to connect too?
I hide my SSID broadcast, so unless I type it in, the card would never know it was there.
But anyway since your card is working now,you will need to find out why it's not connecting to any networks found,
