Are there any further developments re this bug? I'm running LMDE with what appears to be cups 1.5.2 (according to printers.conf) and have 2 printers installed locally and shared, a Brother HL-2140 and an Epson Workforce 600. Both give the "unknown IPP tag" message; the Epson prints regardless, but nothing prints on the Brother. Tried replacing the (recommended) Brother Foomatic/lj4dith driver with the generic Postscript driver, no change. Anyone out there have any further news?

I am also running LMDE and have the same error when trying to print through CUPS. My printer is a Brother MFC-9320CW (a nice big color laser). Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04, 11.10, CentOS 6, Mint 13 all print fine on it. On two other boxes, I've had to go Mint 13 instead of LMDE just for printing.

I upgraded to Update Pack 5 in hopes of this solving the problem, but no luck.

Any ideas?

I managed to go find Rob Adam's bug report on Debian. It appears that they haven't done anything with stable/unstable/testing for quite a long time. Upgrading python-cups as per Rob's fix solved the main problem. But I think the whole CUPS stack Debian is using right now has problems, as printing takes literally 5 minutes. In Mint 13, it takes 5 seconds for the same print job.

Upgraded cups from 1.5.2 to 1.5.3-1 and installed python-cups_1.9.61_i386; that got rid of the '(unknown IPP tag)' error.

I still have the problem that one of my printers doesn't print; it's a Brother HL-2140 with Foomatic/lj4dith driver.

Iam running LMDE UP6 RC 64bit (iso), none of my network printers work. Is there a solution for this?

I tried installing python-cups 1.9.62, 1.9.61 but without luck, unmet dependencies. I managed to install 1.9.59 but this one gives me error:

I'm along time Mint user, especially for production (read other family member) boxes. On my own laptop I like to hop around a bit. Just hopped back from Fubuntu (where network printing was working fine) to LMDE Mate 32-bit (old hand me up), and have been thwarted by this same ipp tag thing. So, I guess it's time to hop again.

This is certainly a strange problem. I am now running LMDE 64 Mate Update Pack 6 on a new machine and have had no problem printing to a shared Epson printer on my XP machine. However if I try to check the printer properties I still get the unknown IPP tag error but it immediately after goes to the properties screen and allows me to edit any settings.
It seems most problems are being experienced on pure network printers and not shared local printers like mine???
