Jumpy video in Gnome 3

When playing a video in gnome 3, doesn't seem to matter which player I use, it is jumpy. If I login to Mate I do not have this issue so it has something to do with gnome 3. Wondering if gnome 3 is just too much a load on my system or if there is some way to fix.
