Hi,yesterday i've noticed some issues with system audio on lmde with cinnamon as DE .

I can't hear login/logout sounds, so i've checked the audio settings and than i've noticed that the speaker's test don't work either.

So i've tried to launch a mp3 and it worked perfectly.

I'can't even hear any error message sound.

Can somebody help me? thanks a lot.

edit

I can't hear system audio even starting mint from live cd....can somebody help me?

The login sound wasn't installed on my machine initially.
You can grab a package that does that, it is a
libcanberra, if I remember correctly.

Also, check in pulseaudio -> sound effects,
whether they are muted or the volume is set too low.

Recently had similar problem, and thought to share here in case others can benefit.

In my case, all application sounds worked fine, but none of the system events did.
Opening the "System->Preferences->Sound" dialog showed 'sound themes' greyed
out and unusable.

After reading several suggestions about the 'libcanberra' I ran a check and saw that
libcanberra-gstreamer was not installed. Installed that and presto! Working
sound events once again.
