Audio device not recognized

Post by palimmo »

Even if I can reproduce video and listen to music apparently without problems, sometimes (I can't understand why and I'm not able to reproduce it) something happens:

Rebooting fixes it.
What's wrong?

thanks!

So the audio device just disappears?
Interesting. Run dmesg (after it happens) and check the few last lines, maybe there would be some hints on that.

Yes, you're right!
I haven't reboot yet, so I could paste some dmesg lines:

Re: Audio device not recognized

Post by Monsta »

No... unfortunately, there are only the messages from the system startup (judging by the timestamps) here.
Some other logs may contain something interesting, but I can't remember all the places where you can look. I can recall two logs you can view (they may contain a lot of identical information though):

Code: Select all

sudo tail -n 40 /var/log/messages

Could be a problem with PulseAudio, it may have crashed.
Now I recall that some info can be found in another log:

(nemo:3416): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'nemo' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 2095 error_code 9 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

sudo alsa force-reload
