Best Youtube to MP3 Converter

VLC works great to download youtube videos as mp3 - or better yet, ogg

I generally download the mp4 file and open it in audacity; then you can trim, normalize, etc., before saving it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate them. Also I personally prefer ogg vorbis compression, but I cannot send those to many of my friends since Windows Media Player won't play ogg files without their downloading the codec (and too many of them are afraid to do that.) or a different player.

if you have 'youtube-dl' you can convert it on the fly by using ffmpeg. some youtube videos also have m4a audio file. you can use youtube-dl to download that audio file separated from the video.
