No sound with the docking station

Hello,

I'm using LMDE with a Thinkpad T440s on a docking station. The sound and the headset works on the laptop but when the laptop is connected, even after selecting the output in 'sound preferences', no sound is coming.

I added

options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-dock

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf as some other forums suggest but without success.

How can I get the sound working with the docking station?

is the docking station a Pro Dock or Ultra Dock (40A10065XX, 40A10090XX, 40A11090XX, 40A20090XX, 40A20135XX, 40A20170XX) ?
Reasom I'm asking is that some people reported problems with this systems and had to upgrade the firmware on it.

Does your laptop run another OS and is this one working? So can eliminate the hw problem.

Sorry for the late reply, somehow I didn't get the update of the thread per email.

Yes it is an Ultra Dock station. I updated the firmware before installing Linux.

It's probably not a hardware defect since it is new but I would need to verify.

No solution for Linux?

easy way would be to check within windows if you have adual boot.

I removed Windows when installing Linux but I will ask someone as soon as I can.

did you try both settings, if I recall HDMI is meant for well HDMI output and analog for spekears, headset and my own docking station (Dell laptop)

I tried both outputs with the 'output' tabulation, the one from the docking station does not work.

let's hope a kernel update does provide a fix(off course assuming the station is physically ok)

I can confirm that the hardware is working, we tested it with a Windows laptop.

ok so maybe a kernel update could fix it.
Don't worry with linux you can always boot back to the old kernel.
