Cheese doesn't work, or work whitout effects Guvcview too

Hi, I'm using currently Cheese, for take photos, just for fun, or take videos, but acctualy, doesn't work unless trough terminal, but in any case whitout effects. In the other hand, the video, doesn't take the sound properly, and thats is a Cheese only problem, because whit de gnome-sound-recorder, all works in this topic.

In video, I took, guvcview as alternative, but neither works.

Apologize about grammar, but English, is'nt my natural lenguage.

Sorry nobody answered this, but I think its a kernel regression. It is definitely a regression. Are you using an Nvidia card?

It worked for me in Backbox (based on Ubuntu) even after upgrade to 11.04. However, in Mint 12 as well as Mint Debian using kernel 3.2 (possibly 3.0) there is a regression documented that seems to affect both Debian and Ubuntu.

I would stick with the older kernel (which is fast enough unless you need the patches for ATI video cards), and avoid dist-upgrade.


FYI, I am avoiding all GTK3 based systems until Cinnamon gets stable. It locks me out of my session in Mint Debian when apps crash, and in Mint 12 I get the kernel regressions.

Cinnamon is really the very best implementation of Gnome-Shell out there now, but its still in beta. Maybe Beta3. The core system might be 1.0, maybe, but with these experimental features it Beta2. Looks good though!

Hey tks, for answer.

Whit the Update Pack 4, I get installed cinnamon, just to try it out, in it, and in Gnome Shell cheese doesn't work, but guvcview does, despites the kernel actualitation.

I'm using an HP G42-372 Notebook, without video cards, so i think, we have to wait a new kernel update, and see waths going on, with cheese.
