Unable to play mp3 in banshee, nor totem

Postby SOC on Fri Mar 23, 2012 9:20 am

Hi, all

I am able to play mp3 in Audacious, but the cursor always jump to next media file quickly without playing any sound when I try to play any media file in banshee.

I tried to excuse banshee in command line, and I get such a error message:
[Error 21:14:35.703] GStreamer resource error: Settings

I would like to offer more information but I don't know how. Please kindly let me know if there is any information I can offer.

This is usually due to the mp3 codec being missing. Try running banshee from a terminal and when you try to play an mp3 it should display an error in the terminal window. It'll probably be that gstreamer plugins are missing, if so you can fix it by installing gstreamer-plugins-good, gstreamer-plugins-bad, gstreamer-plugins-ugly.
