hey have you install emerald 0.8.8-1 my version patched?libemeraldengine0_0.8.4-1_amd64.deb is ok with emerald 0.8.8-1 not problems working all 100%. I have tested many this package to day and working well with 64 bit edition debian.

I'm using LMDE xfce (with Compiz) and this has worked for me, despite being initially intended for Mint 13 (see the latter part of the topic): http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=104232.
