Niiice! Although I see two problems. The apt-get returns

Code: Select all

E: Unable to locate package debian-handbook
The other problem I find is that the amounts for payment are in Euros with no way to switch to nasty old $US. But I definitely want a copy so I'll have to do some work to figure out what I can afford and how to pay it.

If you pay through PayPal, which appears to be one of the options, it should automagically convert your payment to USD before charging your account. One of the nice things about using PayPal :) That should solve one of your problems for you.

I hadn't looked that far yet but I'll definitely keep it in mind. Right now I'm holding back some scratch to make some Mint/KDE/Dodgers stickers for my laptop. I tried to print them a few days ago but Kinko's was out of the sticker stock. I'll try to take some snaps to share once I get them made and on my laptop. I'm definitely looking forward to pimping LMDE and KDE on my laptop at Starbucks.

no need to add sid, just download the debian-handbook .deb

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... 09_all.deb
Once installed you can open it in any web browser by going to:
/usr/share/doc/debian-handbook/html/index.html

I installed it, and also downloaded the mobi version for my phone and my kindle fire.

Very impressive book. The mobi looks great on my Kindle Fire. There is even a bit about Linux Mint in the book :-)

Thankee! I'm creating a bookmark for this so I can find it easily when I need to refer to it.

I just ran across this nice infographic on Debian repositories. Linux Mint Latest and Incoming are based on Debian Testing.

Thanks for posting this, Vincent! It's such a cool graphic I've snagged it for my hard drive and will write a post for my blog letting folks know it exists.

ETA: My blog post is Debian Linux infographic, and I realized I published it without a link to this thread. I'll take care of that in a jiffy.

debian-multimedia repos have changed to http://www.deb-multimedia.org

I saw that earlier this week but I get errors every time I try to use the new URI. Very weird.

ETA: Now it works, although I had to put a space at the end of

Code: Select all

http://deb-multimedia.org/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
to get rid of the very odd 404 error that got appended at the end of the line when I tried doing an update. Now even that line works, which is damned odd since I haven't made any changes to my sources.list except to replace the URI for the deb-multimedia server.

hi, I 've got a question:

I am planning to change my repos to testing when Debian freezes (by the second half of June) and I am going to use the original LMDE repos based in testing as stated in your FAQ. However there is a thing I don't understand: Why "latest LMDE" uses this repo: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import, and "LMDE testing" uses this one: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import backport romeo?. Is there much difference as far as stability is concerned?.

Thx.

somehow i missed this  the old domain is still up (until the end of the year more or less) but it's a good idea to start moving to the new one

As I don't want to be bothered, I don't intent to transfert the domain
name. I'll delete the DNS entries in six months and not renew the domain
name.

both are basically the same, the core components are there in both (main upstream import), the diff is backport (empty as far as i can remember) and romeo (the so called unstable where Clem sometimes tests somes pkgs before they are merged to main)
so, if you want to test beforehand some pkgs (with the consequent instability that it may bring) enable romeo otherwise they will be made available sooner or later.

Hmm... I just found out there's a new section in the main Mint repo: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php? ... n#incoming
Now there's the repo named Incoming and the section with the same name in the main repo
