Failed to fetch

I've been using LMDE for a little while and I've been having this problem too, with VLC, chromium and qbittorrent. I have tried command line and through synaptic.

For VLC I get this:

 Depends: vlc-nox but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: libavcodec53 but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: libavutil51 but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: libva-x11-1 (>1.0.15~) but 1.0.14-1 is to be installed
 Depends: libva1 (>1.0.15~) but 1.0.14-1 is to be installed
 Recommends: vlc-plugin-notify but it is not going to be installed
 Recommends: vlc-plugin-pulse but it is not going to be installed

Trying this didn't solve the problem unfortunately...

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get upgrade

We can't be the only two experiencing this problem.

Any help would be great.
