halt and restart hang in "fuse exit"

Postby TomRoche on Sun May 06, 2012 7:02 pm

After upgrading UP3->UP4 (i.e., upgrading to the 3.2 kernel) I'm noticing the following problem with one of my laptops. Previously, when I did either

Code: Select all
sudo shutdown -Ph now

or

Code: Select all
sudo shutdown -r now

the box would either halt or restart as expected. Now, the box will exit from X to single-user (going to character-mode with white text on black screen), print a bunch of messages (more here about that), and then hang with something like

Code: Select all
[50881.951125] fuse exit

where it will remain until I Alt-SysRq-[REISUB].

Note the same box is also having an odd problem involving USB mounts: dunno if that is related.

How to fix or debug?

Computers is not science. And it's not magic - it's something in between.
