My 201204 Cinnamon/MATE 64-bit is a fresh Install.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 2100 as a local USB printer which installed itself smoothly in 201109 UP3; but the installation encounters bugs in 201204 Cinnamon/MATE.
Cinnamon=> Printers reads the Description correctly as Epson Stylus Photo 2100 but misidentifies the model as Stylus Photo 1410. A test print embarks on printing reams of gobbledegook and has to be stopped by disconnecting the printer and emptying /var/spool/cups. "Print" from anything else does nothing.
MATE spontaneously identifies the printer correctly and apparently goes to look for drivers; but it does not warn that authentication is needed, so nothing more happens. Control Centre=>Printers gets the correct PPD files but also fails to print. It needs a further raft of cups-related packages to be installed before printing works successfully .
Having got it working in MATE the printer now also works in Cinnamon.
