Black Screen with cursor after login

Hello,

I'm running Mate on my LMDE (MSI cr610 laptop with Ati Radeon) and after updating, I only seem to get a black screen with a cursor after logging in.

Is it correct that I should be looking for this error in ~/.xession-errors?

Also, if anybody has come across this problem and has some hints or a location I missed while Googling, it would be most welcome too...
