Update 5 gnome terminal failure

Post by mhwelsh »

When Gnome Terminal is selected I am unable type in any text.
If I select Gedit the keyboard strokes are faithfully reproduced.

I have updated three systems, two on one computer, one of these from linux.com days before the 'release' and the other from rts-informatique.fr.
This machine is a two cylinder AMD 64 with Nvidia graphics. They both work normally.

The third machine, where the fault lies, is a MintBox updated from debian.lth.se. This again has a 2 cylinder AMD64 G-T56N with Radeon Graphics.

I have tried purging the Gnome Terminal software and reloading it, this had no effect.

I do not have a clue about how the keyboard output gets to the Gnome Terminal programme but I will be delighted to explore - under instruction.
I have installed Xfce4 terminal emulator meantime.

from here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 73#p631249 you can try the following to fix the terminal issue
sackofspuds wrote: For anyone else with the terminal issue, a solution is to go into Edit / Profiles / Default / Colours, deselect Use colours from system theme and select the Built-in scheme Black on white.

Paul
just as a side note: and there goes with this 3 reports with the same issues with gnome terminal and all using amd/ati; totally unrelated of course

Thank you for your diligence.
The recommendation to modify the terminal profile was fully effective.

I tried a search using the word 'terminal' I think it selected 90% of the forum contents - terminal is a very popular word!

Referring back to the problems relating to fonts my upgrades have given me slightly larger fonts on the desktop and I feel that they are an improvement. You can't please us all.

Many thanks again,
