Please excuse me if I appear thick but I'm struggling with a problem
I'm a recent convert to 64 bit mint Debian and loaded it via a down load onto my new PC it has worked well for the past month but last night I decided to update the system and loaded the new updater.
The new updater forwarded me to the new mirrors and I downloaded 1217 updated files and proceeded to install them.
After the update had finished I used the system for a further two hours browsing the web shut it down but when I started again this morning the system failed to boot .
I'm assuming that I have put the new grub in the wrong place I have run giparted via a separate CD but cannot locate the boot sector
I must add that I'm 67 years old and don't really understand complex replies but I'm always willing to learn

Can anybody help me please

May I recommend http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub-2.html.

I can understand it and I am 75!

Hi
Thanks for the answer but my problem was intel undi and grub 1.99-22-1.
I resolved both issues by removing lmde and installing xfce and carefully watching where grub was installed following the 1351 file update
Gparted is a very useful tool for resolving problems if a bit drastic
