no keyboard, mouse or touchpad after update

Postby KoenigRigips on Sat Nov 10, 2012 9:44 am

Hello

First, I excuse my english. I actually recognize that playing tetris while all english lessons in scholl can cause some problems =D.

I use a Fujitsu Lifebook with Linux Mint Debian with XFCE in the amd64 version.

I did an update of the whole system with the updatemanager of Mint. After that, I restarded the Computer.

Now, I have no keyboard, no mouse and no touchpad. Those devices do not work when I want to login with the GUI.

When I type something on the keyboard or move the mouse, nothing happens. I only can use an USB keyboard or mouse, which I connect with the computer AFTER the login-window appeared.

But the keyboard of the notebook, the touchpad and the powerbutton are not usable. They just have no effect.

I found nothing with google and have no idea for a solution

Thanks

Regard

Code: Select all
cat /var/log/apt/history.log

Then copy and paste the details of what you updated just before it happened (only that, we don't need the whole log file).

Hi and thank you for the fast response.

Here is the part of histoy.log, which was created after beginning the update. After updating, I installed and removed some other programs with the softwaremanager.

Well according to that log you only did 2 updates, mintsystem and mint-translations. I can't ever imagine that updating either of those two would cause the loss of keyboard and touchpad.

All the other parts of the log file are related to installs and uninstalls that you have done in softwaremanager.

If those two programs are all you have updated, then I cannot see that the update had any bearing on what happened.

Do the keyboard and touchpad work when using a live CD/DVD/USB?

Yes, they work with a live system.

But I have some new information:
If I use a USB keyboard for pressing Alt+Ctrl+F1 after the login window appeared, I can use the notebook keyboard (not the one which is connected via USB) in terminal mode. But that doesn't put the problem in login-window right.

So the problem must be in Xfce, am I right?
But I have the same problem if I start in gnome-mode.

Well, if it works in live mode and it works in 'terminal' mode then at least we can rule out some sort of hardware failure so that is something I suppose.

Do you have the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf installed (not all systems use it these days) if so, have you altered it in any way? Is there anything else that you might have changed around the time the problem occurred? (I don't believe the update you did really caused this fault, it must be something else, perhaps something you did before the update? )

No. I don't mind so. And I have Not the File you said.

And dmesg only shows me that everything is right.

But what kind of Problem could it be? Permission? Settings?

Hey

I have some news.

I found a logfile called mintupdate, which describes the updated packages.

I downloaded the stable versions of updated packages which work with xfce or x11 and input devices. But I can't install them, because the newer versions are already installed.

How can I install them? Can I remove packages like xinput without getting problems with my system?

I now installed my system new. I don't have more time.

But thank you all.
