LMDE64-UP6-NVIDIA-X-Server-settings problem

Hi

I did the upgrade to UP6 which went fairly smoothly. Everything is working except...

As I have a Toshiba laptop L-750, I need to control the brightness with NVIDIA-X-Server-Settings (the light of the screen is unbearable by default) to get a draker screen. But now, it seems there is a new version of this utility and I did not find any way to control the brightness with it.... Before it had a kind of slider, you could save your new config and so on. Now??? :(

It's a very serious problem for me.

When I launch nvidia-settings with my former (I mean the one I used with UP5) configuration file, I get this message in the terminal:

Code: Select all

nvidia-settings

ERROR: Error parsing configuration file '/home/roger/.nvidia-settings-rc' on
line 50: '0/XVideoTextureBrightness=0' (Unrecognized attribute name).

I had some problems in this area with UP6, unfortunately I didn't take notes, but nvidia-settings that I was using was replaced with the nvidia-settings from nvidia-settings-legacy-173xx and the original was marked as a conflict. For some reason some of the -legacy-173xx packages were installed even though I don't need them with my newer card. Removing those packages, IIRC, solved the problem.

Thanks for your reply.

I have to correct my previous message: the utility looks still the same but it is now unable to use my former configuration file with darkness settings. This configuration file had been set up one year ago using a friendlier nvidia-x-server-setings utility and I was using it on UP5.

I tried to come back to the legacy NVIDIA 173. Muddled things thoroughly and had to use Clonezilla to restore my partition to former UP5 state. No big deal, it's a matter of ten minutes. But now, I am worried how am I supposed to upgrade if I have to be unable to use good darkness settings?

At least now, I can use the command

Code: Select all

nvidia-settings
without triggering any mistake like the one above.
