Debian Installer->LMDE->mintupdate gives no Update Pack Info

5. I can run mintupdate, but hitting button=Update Pack Info gives no info

I recently used the Wheezy/testing version of the Debian Installer (7 beta 4) to install LVM on LUKS on a box, then "converted" it to LMDE by fiddling sources.list and installing the associated *-keyring packages. Afterward, I updated and restarted. It mostly works, though there is at least one annoyance.

Another oddity is this: I can run mintupdate, but when I hit the button=Update Pack Info, I get no info: the MU UI slightly flashes, but no dialog comes up, nor is there any other change in the UI. Is this "Working As Designed," because I have not yet installed an update pack?
