Mint Update only half working

Ever since UP5, my Mint Update has only partially been working. It sits in my panel just fine and shows me when there are updates. Right clicking will get me Refresh, Information, and Quit. However, doubleclicking will not open it. I can't get it open any way. I was hopeful that UP6 would fix this, but it didn't.

I do leave it running to find out when an upgrade is there, but I have to use Synaptic to do all the actual updates. BTW, Software Manager works just fine and always has.

LMDE Xfce with full KDE on top as my main environment.

Thanks,
Clyde

2 things you can try:

- open menu-editor (right click on the menu icon) and check if mintupdate has this settings
snapshot113.png
- start mintupdate in the terminal and check the errors (if any) it reports

Code: Select all

mintupdate

Thanks for the reply.

Mint Update runs. It opens and sits in my tray all the time. It even shows me when there are any updates to be applied. It's working, but I just can't open it up to the user interface to actually do the update. It won't open from the menu or the tray. (BTW, my menu settings were exactly like what you showed.)

I had not tried running it from konsole, so I just tried it. It opens to the user interface without any problems from there. Very curious! So, that is a workaround.

Any idea as to why it only opens to the user interface from the command line?

Thanks,
Clyde

BTW, I had to run it from the command line as "sudo mintupdate". Just "mintupdate" wouldn't work.

Ah, that was the key. I edited the menu to run as "root" and it now runs from the menu and the tray.

Thanks,

i would say that the because you are using kde on top of xfce as something to do with this issue but have no way to pin-point the real problem

anyway glad it's solved

I think you are right. I'd love a straight KDE version of LMDE, but that doesn't seem to be in the near future.

i'm afraid not, but you can check Schoelje's amazing work with the un-lmde-kde http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=121058 (it's an amazing system i must say)

I didn't know about the un-LMDE-KDE. That is GREAT! As I have already upgraded to UP6, I'll watch it and see where it is at UP7. I'm pretty stable now - except for having to reboot when plugging in a new hard drive. I only need to do that for backups once a week, which I need to reboot anyway for image backups.

Hopefully this will become official one day.

Thanks for your help,
Clyde

Thank you Lugh! :D

Suddenly I got the same problem, but in Linux Mint 16 KDE. When Googling I found this thread about LMDE.
It was the same solution for me! I also had to add run as "root" in the advanced menu editor to get it working. From the beginning (after installation of the system) everything worked ok, but after a couple of days this happend. Could it be an update of mintupdate causing this problem? :?

Thanks again!
