Well, it seems to be out finally, though no official announcement has been posted yet. I guess that's because some of these packages are still only in Romeo (i.e. the unstable part of the repo).

It is apparently recommended to remove some packages from old Mate 1.4 in Synaptics : http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=185&t=143547#p758001
