I removed the symlinks (sudo update-rc.d -f samba remove) as mentioned in that thread. No more 5 minute shutdown/reboot delays.

Partially helps. 5 min job is not starting anymore, but now hangs at:

GTK+ 2.24.25 and 3.14 are both here now, so the mutex issue is fixed (or worked around, to be precise).

VirtualBox has issues again...

Update: looks like the usual matter of the incompatibility between VirtualBox and its Extension Pack (the one you download from their website), see this comment. Yes, it's a known rule, you always should get the corresponding version of the Extension Pack for your version of VirtualBox.

Don't upgrade libaudio2 to version 1.9.4-1+b1 if you have both amd64 and i386 versions installed - it's broken.

Update: fixed in version 1.9.4-2.
