LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
Hello,
So I tried to update my lmde to update pack 7 but somethings went wrong after I download the updates I got this error.
W: GPG error: http://linux-mint.froonix.org debian Release:
The following signatures were invalid:
BADSIG 3EE67F3D0FF405B2 Clement Lefebvre (Linux Mint Package Repository v1) <root@linuxmint.com>
I closed the error because the updates where there to be installed anyway so I thought this couldn't hurt.
so I installed the updates and it asks me if xSomething and things like those can be closed, looked that up, seemed to be normal. I pressed 'forward' ..
then after some updating I get an error saying something about lib686? and more. lot's of libs anyway. after that I tried to update again but it's saying I have broken packages now.
error:
You have 9 broken packages on your system!
Use the "Broken" filter to locate them.
tried to fix that myself using this thread http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/12
If I try what is said in that thread I it and run those commands
eventually It will hang at "resolving dependencies". (keeps on going and then just hangs)
so I closed that terminal window and now I'm here asking for help because I don't want to completely screw up my system.
any Ideas?

Re: LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
Ok so someone on the irc told me I was using the wrong mirror.
So now i'm on a different mirror and trying to update again.
seems to be working now.

My update went bad, too (probably due to nvidia drivers).
After the reboot, I could see just the command line.
I solved running:
sudo apt-get -f install

Hey thanks for the reply.
Tried what you said in recovery mode but it's still not working.
Btw, is it normal to be able to choose between kernels in grub? 3.2.. and 3.10?
if I boot 3.2 I get a black screen with this error message:
(process:239): GLIb-Warning **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
any suggestions?

Re: LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
UP 7 caused Cinnamon to load with "Error no 3D graphics, and fallback mode"
I tried it again this time unchecking nvidia-kernal-common in the update manager. And it has worked fine so far.
The terminal window during install complained a lot about a broken installation so I ran sudo apt-get -f install as per palimmo's own experience.
Yeah I have Nvidia and it is a real pain with LMDE and Cinnamon, its love, hate for sure.

This should always be "fixed" before anything else.Meshuggah wrote:0 upgraded, -newly installed, - to remove and 91 not upgraded.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Re: LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
Got this.
I got the same when I turned my wifi off.
Does anyone know how I can test if I have an internet connection at all?
Thanks.

Re: LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
That looks like a DNS problem. Can you boot any of the kernels in the normal (not recovery) mode?
Re: LMDE update pack 7 broken packages and more.
Can you get to the console using Ctrl-Alt-F1...F6?
