LMDE new installation gets hosed by first round of updates

Postby bennypr0fane on Fri Oct 18, 2013 6:20 pm

- Now I'm already in this mess (Cinnamon not working, and I also can't make a Gnome classic-session work like the OP did to fix my problems) having gone through the procedure (fresh install + update) twice, I'm thinking it might be easier to roll back to UP6. Can anyone help me with instructions?
I'd have to achieve that with only a command line and an xchat window though - since all else goes black in a gnome session.
The error message after failing to launch cinnamon is this:
Code: Select all
/etc/mdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
localuser:ben being added to access control list
Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service
Failed to connect to the VirtualBox kernel service

- An issue I experienced before the update, i.e. on a fresh install, is that Firefox was just dead, nothing happened when trying to start it from both GUI or command line.
- Else, if I do another (2nd) re-install, what then? I'd still be left with
1. No Firefox
2. Inability to update, because it would break my system.
How soon before we can expect this to be fixed, and is there a quick fix/workaround in the meantime?
regards, Ben
