Moreover, have you tried in these days after the UP the GDebi Package Installer?
I've tried it 2-3 times installing packages and each time it doesn't complete the installation: I have to kill the process.
However after that the package was installed. So it seems that GDebi Package Installer cannot finalize something... and it is stuck.

It's not from Debian, it's from SolydXK. Originally this tool appeared here (before the author went to create SolydXK).
thanks for the correction. I though it comes from debian since it has 'debian' on his name.

@palimmo: you can grab the tool from solyxk's repo. that package only depends on plymouth so I think it should be working on LMDE. there are also a command tool to change the theme via terminal but I forgot what is it.
Code: Select all
deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext

it works! (even if I have only debian splash screens with debian symbol available and that one of linux mint I told before.. but it's ok).

Now the only problem is Gdebi Package Manager...

EDIT: I have noticed (with Banshee at least) that when I start this software the volume becomes suddenly 100%!
Here a workaround:

Since UP8, I have used Gdebi at least in 3 occasions and in each case the installation (apparently) didn't finish.
Packages were google-talk-plugin, google-chrome and debian-plymouth-manager.

Try installing the newer version of GDebi from Debian Testing repos.

I have installed Gdebi 0.9.3 (0.9.1 was available with UP8) from Debian testing repo --> http://packages.debian.org/jessie/admin/gdebi
Installation is easy, only gdebi and gdebi-core are updated.

Now, I need to test with a .deb ;)

It's not working...

I installed mint-backgrounds-julia and it went fine. Then I tried mint-backgrounds-helena and Gdebi didn't closed... :(

If it crashes with segfault, you can find the segfault message in the dmesg output. Run this right after crash:
Code: Select all
dmesg | tail

That's right. You can try the 0.9.5.4 version and report if it's working palimmo
