Re: suspend and screen lock issues after UP8

thanks for the tip - i ran through the process here.. and now the laptop does not show the login screen on boot..

the bootup process proceeds normally, the mint logo is on screen and then the screen goes black.. and no more occurs.

recovery mode does let me login and the suspend mode works when i close the lid. :)
- though i am unclear on what to do to resolve the blank screen issue.

I don't know, I writed that the tip worked for my laptop, so I can't be sure that works on every laptop... but I believe that the problem is not in the procedure of configuration for systemd, but in other place, we must wait for the experts... =)

I think that's related with cinnamon/xorg. I think it might be good idea to crated different thread and check the log files.

it could be X. anyway, that's not the main point. if you don't create separate thread then it will be hard for other user to notice your problem.

well, for reference, since any new thread will likely reference this one.
when i reboot after a failed boot i see:

systemd failed to get a connection

(or similar)

i saw the recent updates come through for some of these files today and installed them on my main pc here.
i also installed them in recovery mode on my laptop - however, the laptop still does not boot in 'normal' mode.

Well, maybe it's time to revert the process - install sysvinit and remove systemd-sysv (or whatever needs to be done)?

i'm not sure what the reverse of this process is currently, since i am unclear on the details of what each of these packages do and how they interact.

MATE can work with or without systemd, but it doesn't detect it properly. It basically checks for logind and assumes systemd is running.

So when you switch to full systemd, it works in systemd mode.

And if you were to remove libpam-systemd and systemd, it would work fine in legacy mode.

The problem in LMDE is that we have logind but we don't use systemd itself...

So anyway, the easiest solution was to force MATE not to use systemd. That means people don't need to do anything but to accept the update to mate-power-manager 1.6.2-2+lmde and logout/login again.

Now.. for those who want to run systemd instead of init, please stick to mate-power-manager 1.6.2-1+lmde and hold onto it.

I've kept both versions in the repositories (1.6.2-1 in import, 1.6.2-2 in upstream) so everybody's happy :)

thanks for responding clem; i have no preference about which packages i use, provided the functions run ok.
from what i read here i guessed and removed systemd-sysv and rebooted, thinking that this would revert my machine to homeostasis. ;)

however, the boot gets as far as the linux mint logo and locks.

are you saying to remove systemd too? and leave sysvinit installed?

Thanks
