[SOLVED] UP8 crashes

Post by enginco »

hi, firstly sorry my bed english

3 days ago, I installed UP8, but forgot to change repository list.
While downloading packages, it stopped. I tried again and successfully installed.

But now, on startup it gives socket errors.
Gedit not working and gnome restarts. Similarly guake and some programs crashes.
Touchpad scroll not working vs...

here is the error:
"A problem has occured and the system can't recover. All extensions have been disabled as a precaution."

I tried:
sudo aptitude -f
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade

There is no broken packages.
İt says "All system is up to date"

Should I reinstall or are there any solution for my situation?

hi monsta,
thanks for your reply,

"apt purge hal" is worked fine.

Other problems are not solved.

Alright, and what are the problems now? You need to give more information if you want to get help. Reports like "this application is not working" don't tell us anything.

hi,

so sorry, but I'm getting only this error while trying to open gedit, guake, eclipse, libroffice
and trying to attach a file in gmail, trying to watch full screen any video on browser.

"A problem has occured and the system can't recover. All extensions have been disabled as a precaution."

With this error on screen, there is only one button (logout)

Which info do you want to know?

After logout, this is the my system logs:

Re: UP8 crashes

Post by Monsta »

Next time it happens, look for any error messages in the last lines of dmesg output:

Code: Select all

dmesg | tail -n 20
and post the output here.

Also post the output of:

Code: Select all

cat ~/.xsession-errors
after the error message appears.

What a spam!

Are you sure it's not your theme which is creating problem? Can you use an other one?

This look strange to me. What is this extension?

Code: Select all

JS ERROR: !!! Exception in callback for signal: destroy
JS ERROR: !!! message = '"menuData is undefined"'
    JS ERROR: !!! lineNumber = '371'
    JS ERROR: !!! fileName = '"/home/enginco/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/panelSettings@eddiefullmetal.gr/extension.js"'

 You could safely insert the whole log into a single "code" block actually.

Looks like one of Gnome Shell extensions is causing problems. You need to find out which one.

I would advise to remove the one from eddiefullmetal :)

Code: Select all

/home/enginco/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/panelSettings@eddiefullmetal.gr/extension.js"'
You can remove the folder (move it to the desktop for a while just in case ;))

I removed all extensions and changed to default themes.
And solved this problem.

Just have one problem.
After upgrade my touchpad scroll is not working.

I've looked at this extension on github and extensions.gnome.org. Looks like it supports Gnome Shell up to 3.6 only, so no wonder it causes problems in 3.8.

Well you could find the solution yourself if you just googled "touchpad scroll gnome shell". :D

Looks like rule number 1 is still true:
When Gnome-shell or Cinnamon keeps crashing, look for the extensions you have added.
