UP8: connect apple magic trackpad > bluetooth freezes system

Postby rcrath on Tue Feb 25, 2014 3:01 pm

Using LMDE UP8, not tracking any Debian repos
- update 8 installed, reboot, login.
- Go to connect apple magic trackpad to bluetooth via belkin USB bT dongle. was previously pairedand working, not paired now.
- pair with apple magic trackpad...first problem: Trackpad shows up as a tablet with a series of ID numbers rather than apple magic trackpad, which was formerly recognized correctly. Pairing with mislabeled entry successful.
- Second Problem: trackpad works momentarily, then whole system becomes unresponsive. No mouse or key input. have to hard reset via power button.
- reboot and log in. BT applet now shows tablet with ID/address numbers in connect submenu (but it is the magic trackpad). Connect once, momentary on switch, then back off, connect a second time and it sticks, touchpad works for a moment, but moving cursor causes system freeze within moments.
-happens consistently.

Can anyone help me sort this out? Happy to provide logs/output if needed. Maybe vendor/product code has a typo in it somewhere? I am having the problem on two computers where I use the trackpad via bluetooth.

I filed bug reports: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1284451?comments=all and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=740462 but if anyone can shed light on this it would be great.

Hello,

I managed to work around this problem by installing a latest kernel build.

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/ma ... c6-utopic/

I installed amd64 package files - linux-headers-*-generic, linux-image-*-generic and linux-headers*all (which I only needed in order for sgfxi to build the nvidia drivers).

I was then able to pair and have been using the Apple Magic Trackpad without any issue.

The one issue I have come up against so far is that I can't seem to get two finger scrolling working.

For anyone else who is looking for this information, I managed to get Two Finger scrolling working with the apple magic trackpad.

After upgrading my kernel to the latest 3.17-rc6 so that pairing would not crash my system, I then used xinput to turn on Synaptics Two-Finger Scrolling, instructions for which you can read here:

http://vaguehope.com/2012/10/fixing-ubu ... -trackpad/

The mentioned property on my machine was set to 0, 0 (vertical = 0, horizontal = 0) once I set this to 1, 1, both vertical and horizontal scrolling worked immediately.
