Is it safe to remove linux-image-486 and linux-headers-486?

Postby clifor on Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:38 pm

Hi all,

I've installed LMDE and found that only one CPU was shown on System Monitor, so I've searched on the forums and followed the instructions on this post http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=189&t=126434 and installed linux-image-686-pae and linux-headers-686-pae.

The problem is solved, but now GRUB shows the options to boot to the 486-kernel and the 686 and I only want the second. Is it safe to remove linux-image-486 and linux-headers-486? Are there any other packages that should I remove?

Another question: Where is the device driver manager (ddm)? I can't find it.

Thank you for your help.

if you are satisfied with the current version of kernel then it's safe to remove the previous one.
after removing run "sudo update-grub" in terminal.

Since Kernel don't take too much room, I would advise to keep it until the next kernel upgrade. It's always good to have a second working kernel.
But of course you can safely remove it if the first one is working fine.

DDM is depreciated. It was too buggy in LMDE and has been removed from the repo.
