Updates sometimes get stuck

I was updating LMDE and twice the Updates got stuck heres the workaround open the terminal type xkill then click on the update manager to kill it then type sudo dpkg --configure -a into the terminal problem solved!

Your "workaround" is why you have to run dpkg --configure -a

Canceling breaks stuff.
