There is something funny going on with my mintUpdate on my LMDE 64bit install. It does not warn me about new updates unless I click the Update Management screen (clicking the shield icon in the systray) and I enter my password BEFORE it refreshes and comes back to tell me there are hundreds of updates available!
So I repeat this some days later but this time keeping an eye on the mintUpdate log files. And funnily, after the whole click-open-password-refresh dance there are TWO of them:
One that I can open as normal user:
Code: Select all
++ Launching mintUpdate in user mode
++ Testing initial connection
-- No connection found (tried to read http://www.google.com and to ping google.com) - sleeping for 60 seconds
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 59 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
++ Connection to the Internet successful (tried to read http://www.google.com)
++ Successfully downloaded new safety rules using proxy: None
++ System is up to date
++ Refresh finished
...[snip]...
++ MintUpdate is in tray mode, performing auto-refresh
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 59 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
++ Connection to the Internet successful (tried to read http://www.google.com)
++ Successfully downloaded new safety rules using proxy: None
++ System is up to date
++ Refresh finished
++ Launching mintUpdate in root mode, waiting for it to kill us...
Code: Select all
++ Launching mintUpdate in root mode
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 59 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
++ Connection to the Internet successful (tried to read http://www.google.com)
++ Successfully downloaded new safety rules using proxy: None
++ Found 4 recommended software updates
++ Refresh finished
