mintdesktop / mintsystem updates

After updating both mintsystem and mintdesktop, you might want to re-enable the fortunes in the terminal. To do so, launch "Desktop Settings" from the menu, click on "Terminal" and check "Show fortune cookies".

(Solved) Google chrome update problem ( it was telling me it was the newest version but I had to update it to the newest version :? )
Even after reinstall it with package manager it didn't fix it.
I then try the beta version
12.0.742.100 beta

Now I'm cooking again :D

BY the way this beta looks faster :P

mv linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64.postrm linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64.list /root
apt-get -f install

I have Husse:s fortunes, BUT I cannot open "mintdesktop" from the menu. when I tried from a terminal window it said:

Code: Select all

Hello zerozero,

please, what is the cli?

What i did is, uninstall digiKam. A reinstall is not possible. In dpkg > details i get the information 'digiKam won't work'
The same hint i got while upgrading with apt-get. 'Do you want to continue y/n/?' I hit y. I wanted to risk it, see what happens.
(apt-listbugs is installed)

What i don't understand is, in my fallback system the same version (2:1.9.0-3) is working. That system is a german distribution

http://www.conducit-project.de/wpb/

I'm running it as a purely Debian Testing. Both, Conducit and LMDE, with gnome. So maybe it is a LMDE problem is all i know
at this point.

hi Gerd50,
the cli (command-line interface), terminal;

but anyway if at this point you uninstall it and can't install it again, and furthermore it works on your debian testing system we have to assume (untill someone provides better explanation) that, as you say, is a LMDE issue; just can't connect it with the last batch of updates :oops:

Ok, here is what i get if i try to reinstall dK:

Code: Select all
Lesen der Paketfelder ... Erledigt
Lesen des Paketstatus ... Erledigt
Laden der Fehlerberichte ... Erledigt
»Found/Fixed«-Informationen werden ausgewertet ... Erledigt
serious Fehler von digikam (-> 2:1.9.0-3) <ungelöst>
 #630628 - ABI change -> digikam not working
Zusammenfassung:
 digikam(1 Fehler)
Sind Sie sicher, dass Sie die oben genannten Pakete installieren bzw. ein Upgrade von ihnen wollen? [Y/n/?/...]

Line 5 and 6:

serious error of digikam (-> 2:1.9.0-3) <unresolved>
#630628 - ABI change -> digikam not working

This is exactly what i got at todays update.

I only saw one new background, one based on the Mint 11 background, but tweaked for LMDE by replacing the 11 with the Debian logo.

All the other Mint updates were nice, I'm glad they pushed the updated Desktop Settings app (mintdesktop) over now, saves people from having to "fix" the mint-fortune script (especially since the proper fix was to manually add the gconf key mint-fortune was trying to check the value of... I'm surprised no one caught that earlier when the package providing mint-fortune was pushed over...)

Ok here's a problem. I commented the /usr/bin/mint-fortune line in bash.bashrc when those updates came.

I know I can just uncomment the line but I feel i lost those other stuff i.e. the ability to switch on/off the terminal from the desktop settings.

If you launch Desktop Settings, do you see the Terminal section, and in it, the check-box to enable or disable showing fortunes in the terminal? If so, you're probably safe to uncomment the line in bash.bashrc, then just uncheck the box from in Desktop Settings if you want to disable the fortunes.

If you're really unsure, you could also run 'gconftool-2 --get /desktop/linuxmint/terminal/show_fortune' (without the quotes) and see what the result is. It should show up as 'true' (or 'false', no quotes in either case) if the key is properly installed and configured, otherwise you'll get an error stating that the key doesn't exist, or some such...
