Previously had libglib2.0-cil libgtk2.0-cil on hold (that wanted to remove 'mono')

Yesterday put 'mintdesktop' on hold (that wanted to add MATE packages)

Today, put ATP on hold (for reasons in above posts).
Code: Select all
gene@zordon:~$ apt-cache policy apt
apt:
  Installed: 0.8.15.10
  Candidate: 0.9.0
  Version table:

        500 http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
 *** 0.8.15.10 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Then, was able to do a full DU.

Dan

Yes, I saw that too.
I solved it by first emptying my apt cache.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get autoclean

Code: Select all
 sudo apt-get clean

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get autoremove

Then I updated with the 'safe upgrade' command
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

That fixed it for me, but that was earlier today, more problems now.
I would hold off upgrades for a while.

NOTE:
You should hold off on the upgrade but you should clean out your apt-cache with the first three commands.
There are bug reports filed on this, and it will get fixed.

Edit:

I see in Regulus' post that he says APT is fixed?
Not for me. Its causing the problems above.
I'd hold off on any upgrades for a while. I see some problems, even trying a 'safe' upgrade right now.
LOTS of new stuff coming to SID in the last day or two.

Yes I check also aptosid forum.

So I went ahead to du, ignoring the bugs (for sun sparc).

both sid partitions xfce and gnome are ok with latest apt

APT isn't fixed here either - installing the updates would mean removing Synaptic and software-properties-gtk, among other things.

I successfully upgraded apt but now get this error every time (tried to upgrade just one package below):

Code: Select all
E: Internal error: APT::pkgPackageManager::MaxLoopCount reached in SmartConfigure for file-roller:amd64, aborting

Tried the above steps of cleaning the cache too.

I think there is a Debian bug on this issue and a fix has been done. As long as you can still update it should just clear as the updates come through. If necessary use aptitude instead to update. It appears to be the same thing.

Worst case download the latest (or older) deb from debian packages and use dpkg to install.

+1 Minitube problem, I have an ATI Radeon card, running open source drivers, which I assume is the problem.

:Edit: Appears the problem is intermittent, some videos work, but minitube does not run well at all.

tried some other SID partition

1. Siduction - xfce- SID, no problem, work out of the box
2. Debian SID, gnome3, no problem to run, full sound and video
root@debian:/home/wayne# apt-cache policy minitube

3. LMDE gnome, sound ok, no video
4. LMDE xfce, sound ok, no video
5. xubuntu 12.04 beta2, sound ok, no video.

That is a LONG list of bugs. I think the best I could tell you is that Both my Gnome and XFCE SID installs are both fully updated with nothing held back, and seemingly no problems. Minitube works fine (but Nvidia). I had removed all things 'mono' a few days ago. All is well here.

Curios question to the old "wise ones" here:
When the new stable LMDE get released If you have an up to date SID is there any reason to wipe your current install and start with a fresh LMDE (whatever flavor you wish) install?
Thanks wise ones.

Nope , no reason to ever reinstall unless you manage to mess things up beyond repair. Which takes a lot of work. To screw it up bad enough to need a reinstall that is. :)

on my desktop which has had most of the hardware replaced over the years, Debian sid was installed back in Feb 2004. Still haven't had to reinstall. On my ancient Thinkpad R40 its been almost 2 yrs, still running smooth.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - Apr 18

Postby dcihon on Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:45 pm

My Cinnamon is crashing on startup.
I was in XFCE and added to autostart Conky and Wally.
I then booted into Cinnamon and it crashes and won't start. All I can do is logout.
I went back into XFCE and took out those 2 start up items I added and it still crashes.
Is there any log files that I can look at to see what is going on during startup?
Thanks
Dan

Also thank for the responses on my previous question. I am just rolling right along with LMDE. Up to date in SID.
