Blackscreen after latest updates

Postby wobbe98 on Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:35 pm

Two days ago I upgraded my system and now it boots into a black screen.
And the same upgrades might also have messed up my grub because puppy and parted magic won't load anymore.
I think this has to do with the open source ATI drivers but I'm not sure being a Windows guy and all.
(FYI: I had the catalyst drivers from ATI loaded)

I can still boot into recovery mode so who can help me recover?

(By the way, now I'm seriously doubting my choice for a rolling release distro.)

This seems to be caused by an update to mesa and xorg-server packages. It surfaced in the LMDE-Breakages thread beginning with the following post:
viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&start=680#p442574
It has occurred with use of proprietary ati and nvidia drivers. The tread discusses several ways to correct the problem over the next few pages aftet the post linked to above.
