Two days ago I upgraded my system and now it boots into a black screen.
And the same upgrades might also have messed up my grub because puppy and parted magic won't load anymore.
I think this has to do with the open source ATI drivers but I'm not sure being a Windows guy and all.
(FYI: I had the catalyst drivers from ATI loaded)
I can still boot into recovery mode so who can help me recover?
(By the way, now I'm seriously doubting my choice for a rolling release distro.)

This seems to be caused by an update to mesa and xorg-server packages. It surfaced in the LMDE-Breakages thread beginning with the following post:

It has occurred with use of proprietary ati and nvidia drivers. The tread discusses several ways to correct the problem over the next few pages aftet the post linked to above.
