Installed hard drive with 200 day old LMDE-gnome

Postby malligt on Tue Sep 27, 2011 8:18 am

My hard drive crashed, so I've removed it, and plugged back in a hdd that contains a 202 day old installation of LMDE-gnome.

The software sources of this old install are pictured below:

My question:

How do I successfully update this old installation to mint's "LATEST" repositories contained in the 201109 gnome respin?

I've searched the forum, and found this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=186&t=77738

Is this the best way for me to proceed?

Thoughts, ideas?

Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Thank you, but what I was trying to ask is do I switch the repositories to "LATEST" now,
and then perform

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Or do the sudo (above) first, and then point the repositories to LATEST second.

FYI: This LMDE install is so old that it is Mint 10, Open Office, FF 3.16....

This is kinda scary for me, and I do not want to brick it.

Thanks!

If you wish you could download the new re spin that would make it less trouble.

If you want to use what you have, you need to use the repo's in the above link, then change after all the updates are done. Most problems you might run into should be covered already in that thread.

Yes, downloading the new 201109 and installing it would be faster, and hence more convenient.

I wanted to prove to all readers that this could really be done, even if it took much much longer, and I'm very happy to report:

Joy of joys that after over 2.5 hours of downloads...that I'm actually writing you on Mint LMDE GNOME "Latest" that was updated/upgraded from a 202 day old (original) install.

I need to thank wyrodak, tjdockery, and zerozero, et al, for all their threads, replies, and inputs on this forum that made this possible for me today.

THANK YOU!
