Re: Kernel update error

Post by Gerd50 »

I think it's a Nvidia problem. Are the headers for the kernels installed? If they are boot a new kernel and in the terminal run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-glx
then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-glx
and reboot.

Edit: Forget it, i now think zerozero is right with his diagnosis :)

salsalha, if you don't have nvidia, don't install the driver;

anyway you still have one error here
N: Ignoring file 'opera.list.save' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
N: Ignoring file 'google-chrome.list.save' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
N: Ignoring file 'google-talkplugin.list.save' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename
try to run the command xircon gave you in this topic http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=186&t=82360

Code: Select all

sudo rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.save
and then do again the dist-upgrade, share with us the final output

Re: Kernel update error [SOLVED] :)

In case this helps anyone else, I recently had this or a similar issue.

Code: Select all

dkms.conf: Error! No 'BUILT_MODULE_NAME' directive specified for record #0.
Error! Bad conf file.
File:
does not represent a valid dkms.conf file.
I found that I could reproduce it most easily by typing

Code: Select all

dkms autoinstall
I noticed in the error message that it was complaining about a file called dkms.conf, that didn't have a "BUILD_MODULE_NAME" directive - whatever it means by a directive. So I searched for files called dkms.conf:

Code: Select all

> locate dkms.conf
/etc/modprobe.d/dkms.conf
/usr/src/ndiswrapper-1.57/dkms.conf
/usr/src/virtualbox-4.1.18/dkms.conf
/var/lib/dkms/ndiswrapper/1.57/build/dkms.conf
/var/lib/dpkg/info/dkms.conffiles
Then I checked each one and the problem turned out to be with ndiswrapper:

Code: Select all

> cat /var/lib/dkms/ndiswrapper/1.57/build/dkms.conf
PACKAGE_NAME="ndiswrapper"
PACKAGE_VERSION="1.57"
DEST_MODULE_LOCATION[0]="/updates"
AUTOINSTALL="yes"
I solved it with:

Code: Select all

dpkg --purge ndiswrapper-dkms
Locked

Return to “LMDE Archive”
