can't upgrade via terminal

Hello All,
I am running LM Debian dual boot, and have been for several months now. Today I tried to use the terminal to update and then upgrade. When upgrading, I get to a point where I get a message about
"now we recommend to use modern Japanses font packages such as" and goes on with a list of a few.
I cannot get beyond this point. There is no prompt asking me for any input, it just sits there doing nothing. If I hit enter a few times, it will come up with a line and (END), but when I close the terminal, it tells me there are still processing running, so the upgrade does not finish.
What am I supposed to do, or what can I do, to get beyond this so I can use the terminal for upgrading again?
Thanks for any help.
