Update errors...

Postby tenfoot on Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:06 pm

Using LMDE

For some reason I am getting an error message when trying to Refresh the Update Manager.

Code: Select all
W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: http://ftp.debian.org testing InRelease: File /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ftp.debian.org_debian_dists_testing_InRelease doesn't start with a clearsigned message

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: http://security.debian.org testing/updates InRelease: File /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/security.debian.org_dists_testing_updates_InRelease doesn't start with a clearsigned message

W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/InRelease

W: Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/testing/updates/InRelease

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

So I decided to check my Repositories:

Code: Select all
 Debian testing
Officially supported
DFSG-compatible Software with non-Free Dependencies
Non-DFSG-compatible Software
http://security.debian.org/testing/updates main contrib non-free
http://www,debian-multimedia.org testing main non free

Somehow this didn't look correct to me, so I browsed through the Forum and found this item from zerozero

Code: Select all
 Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
        deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
        deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free

but cannot remember whether this relates to the new way of updating, where the Mint Team checks updates before release, or to the original LMDE update system.

Any advise as to whether my Repositories are correct and, if not, what they should be, will be much appreciated.

Hi tenfoot,

for latest this one is valid

Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free

Hi Gerd50,

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, I think the Repositories you quote are for the 201109 respin of LMDE. I have been using the previous DVD of LMDE for which the update repositories were different.

If I do go for a complete reinstall, using LMDE 201109, I'll certainly make sure I use the Repositories you quote but fear that if I do so now, I'll be "out of sync" with what has been downloaded before.

Again, thanks for a very prompt reply.

tenfoot, your repos (as you are using the previous iso) should look like this:

Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free

and eventually they are exactly like that;
as for that error, the repos could just be down (they are fine now here)
