HELP! Laptop graphics broken after update and reboot

Postby JustinGordon on Tue Mar 20, 2012 4:25 am

Very sadly and discouragingly, after updating to the latest Mint 12 updates, HP Pavilion DV7 will only boot one screen to 1024x768, whereas before rebooting I had 1600x900 and a 1080P second monitor.

System details:
Intel® Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20GHz × 8
32-bit

I have NOT installed the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX driver.

This is incredibly discouraging as I had thought Mint 12 to be an excellent Linux distro.

Is there any way to back out updates? Any ideas?

UPDATE:
I seem to have fixed the problem with the following steps:
Reboot
Go to "Displays"
1. Disable the 2nd monitor, apply
2. Set laptop screen to 1600x900. Apply (worked)
3. Unplug the 2nd monitor
4. Plug in the 2nd monitor
5. Click Detect Displays -- now shows correct resolution for the 2nd monitor.
6. Enable the 2nd monitor

Anyway, this is really super scary!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.
